April Ross

April Ross was one of just a handful of women beach volleyball athletes who earned medals during more than one Olympics. Alix-Klineman is set to compete alongside April Ross Tokyo to win her third gold in the next few days. Ross wants to achieve more than her first Olympic medal. This may be the last chance she'll ever have at age 39. She's certain that the top prizes are within reach. Ross declared on NBC Boston: "If we try our best, and even playing well I believe we can be able to win gold." Also, I am going be relying on a little bit of luck. Ross was a Californian born in the city of Costa Mesa in 1982. She grew up in Costa Mesa with her mother, father and sister. Ross went on to play in many sports in Newport Harbor High School. Apart from playing indoor volleyball, she also played basketball and jogged track in her pre-college days. However she was clearly a cut above the rest in this latter game. The college bio says that she was an outside-hitting hitter, middle blocker and setter throughout her volleyball time at high school. In recognition of her work, she was honored as the 1999 Gatorade Circle of Champions National Player of the Year. She also was awarded an Orange County Athlete of the year award for volleyball. Ross has been playing with Klineman since 2017. However, Ross's beach game was established well before that. The American has been a major winner in events twice, with various partners. A couple of those has become an icon of the world of volleyball. Between 2007 and 2013, she was partnered by Jennifer Kessy, who is now her coach. Ross, Kessy's fellow teammate who took home the title of world champion alongside Kessy in 2009, also was a major force on an international level. The duo won silver at London's Olympic Games. The Misty Maytreanor legendary team and Kerri Jennings were the winners of gold. The fate of the matter was that Ross turned out to be Walsh Jennings' new partner after May-Treanor's retirement. Both went on to win the bronze medal in beach volleyball in the Rio Olympics 2016 with Walsh Jennings. Ross played for the Trojans of USC in her college the years prior to her professional career. Her career was a success during her time in the NCAA tournament. When she was a freshman in 2000 Her performance was rewarded with the Pac-10 and NCAA Young Player of the Year awards. In addition, she helped her Trojans to make it to the Final Four. The Trojans suffered a significant personal defeat in her sophomore year however, she was successful in achieving the All-American title. In her last two years she led the Trojans up to the summit and won consecutive national titles. Her individual achievements have cemented her as a volleyball legend. She was awarded the Honda Sports Award 2003-04 for the top female NCAA player. Ross was a student of International Relations at USC. Margie Ross did not see her daughter achieve the heights in beach volleyball. Ross lost the breast cancer that she battled in 2001. Ross was then a sophomore. But, she will always hold her lost parent near and dear. Margie remains an inspiration on and off of the beach.
